Online Blackjack
Blackjack is a very popular online casino game across the world. Also recognised by the name of Twenty-One and Pontoon, Blackjack is one such game well-known for the skills involved in it. Plus, the game itself carries a big publicity and keeps a track of all cards that were played in the last shuffle.
The History of Blackjack
The antecedent of Blackjack was vingt-et-un (meaning thereby, ‘Twenty One’ in French language), which emancipated from French casinos around 1700. In that period, it never offered the bonus at 3:2 for a two-card 21. 21 were first introduced in the United States, but could not gain much publicity. This led the gambling houses to offer different bonus payouts to attract more players towards the game. This gave birth to ‘Blackjack’ – the bonus of a 10-to-1 payout, when one player has the ace of spades and a black Jack (of clubs or of spades). This hand is since then called a ‘blackjack’ but later the bonus payout was eliminated.
Options for Players
In Blackjack, a player has five options to play his or her hand, viz. Hit, Stand, Double down, Split and Surrender. In case of ‘Hit’, the player can take another card. In case of ‘Stand’, the player is not allowed to take cards anymore. In case of ‘Double down’, the player may double the bet and take just one more card, and then stand. In case of ‘Split’, if the player has two cards with same value, he can double the wager and let each card be the first card in a new hand. In case of ‘Surrender’, the player gives up the half of the wager and then the hand. This option is, however, not offered at many casinos.
After the player decides to stand or double down his bet to take exactly one single card, his turn gets over. But if the player bust, he loses the bet, no matter if the dealer too goes on to bust. Once all the layers have taken their decisions, the dealer reveals the hidden hole cards of each player and plays the hand. The rules of the game suggest that the dealer must reveal the cards until each player has atleast 17 cards. In the case of the dealer busting, all remaining players win the game. Wagers (or bets) are generally paid out at the ratio of 1:1. All players who tie-up with the dealer, get their fair share of bet back.
