Texas Hold’em – An Overview
Texas Hold’em is one of the popular forms of Poker played in Texas. Players get two down cards or hole cards. After this, betting begins. There are three board cards, which are turned concurrently. This is called the “flop”. Thereafter, another round of betting begins. The next two board cards are turned one at a time, followed with a round of betting after each card.
Board cards are community cards. A player may use a valid five-card combination from either the board cards or personal cards. A player can also choose to use all of the board cards and no personal cards to play the game. A dealer button is used to start with.
Usually, the game involves two blinds. The game can also be played with one blind, multiple blinds, an ante, or combination of blinds plus an ante.
Texas Hold’em Characters
Texas Hold’em rules are quite simple to understand. They contain most of the features of other Poker games, but Texas Hold’em rules are more specific to irregularities. Before discussing the rules, let me make you aware with the main characters of the game:
Hole cards
It means that each player will deal two cards with face down.
The Flop
In this case, three cards are dealt with their faces up on the table.
The Turn
It is referred to as the fourth card that is dealt to the table.
The River
The River is the fifth card. It is also dealt to the table.
All these five cards are also termed as “Community Cards”.
Jargons used in the Game
Blind
A blind can be small blind or big blind. Blind refers to forced bets that take the place of an ante. As far as the small blind and the big blind are concerned, the person sitting to the left of the dealer is required to pay the small blind, whereas, the person who is after the dealer is required to pay the big blind.
Draw
In this case, you hope that your hand will improve by dealing the cards coming on the board.
Flop
A Flop occurs when the first three cards come out in Holdem.
Implied odds
Implied pots consider making bets in the future period. At the time of flop, a hand will call a bet. At the same time, he will have implied odds of making bigger bets on later rounds.
Longhand
This refers to a poker game with seven or more people.
Outs
Outs refer to the number of cards used to improve one’s hand.
Pot Odds
Pot Odds are obtained when a player draws.
River
River is the fifth card on the board in Holdem.
Shorthand
It is a poker game with only six or less than six people.
Turn
Turn comes after the flop occurs. It is the fourth card on the board.
